Lanes and target carriers

How a Spire lane works

Each lane has its own target hanging from a carrier that travels along a rail. The instructor or shooter controls it from a touch screen, without walking out to the target.

  1. 01

    Modular rail

A modular steel rail, mounted to the ceiling or floor structure, runs the lane from the stall to the bullet trap. It has end stops and a homing sensor so the carrier always knows where it is.

  2. 02

    Carrier (the “cart”)

The carrier rides the rail with a robust drive motor. On the Ridge systems it runs on a wireless battery: there is no wiring along the lane, installation is cleaner and there are fewer points of failure.

  3. 03

    Clamp and target

The carrier holds the target with a clamp: paper, cardboard or steel. Several clamp styles are available and, on turning systems, a motor rotates the target to show or hide it.

  4. 04

    Touch control

A master screen at the instructor station and local screens in each stall send commands by radio. They come with built-in programs: qualification courses of fire and competitive games.

Target movement

What the target can do

The systems can be combined in the same range to build increasingly demanding drills.

Indoor lanes with rails and silhouette targets

Forward and back

The carrier takes the target from the stall to the chosen distance and brings it back. Three speeds: walk, jog and run, up to 12 ft/s (≈ 3.7 m/s). Wireless systems reach 110 yards (≈ 100 m) or more.

Turning silhouette targets in an indoor lane

90°, 180° and 360° turn

The target shows face-on, edge-on or turned away on the instructor's command, for exposure-time, reaction and identification drills. Electric models turn 90° in as little as 0.33 s and offer random turning.

Silhouette targets in lateral movement

Lateral movement

The runners (“running man”) cross the field of fire from side to side in walk, jog, run or random mode. They force shooters to track the target and lead their shots, which a fixed target cannot teach.

Forward-and-back carriers: Summit Ridge-360, Ridge and Ascent

Summit Ridge-360 wireless carrier

These are the lane carriers: they take the target downrange and bring it back. The Ridge-360 adds electric turning; the Ridge is the lower-cost version without turning; the Ascent is cable-driven and its carrier is outdoor-rated.

  • No wiring along the lane (Ridge): simpler installation and less maintenance.
  • Robust drive motor and modular rail.
  • Battery life for a full day of use.
  • Optional LED lighting and multiple clamp styles.

The Ridge can later be upgraded to the Ridge-360 if turning is needed. The manufacturer lists the Ascent as “coming soon”: ask about availability.

Lateral-movement runners: Summit Ridge-360r, Ridge-r and Ascent-r

The “Running Man” series moves the target side to side across the field of fire to simulate people in motion. Ideal for law enforcement, military and advanced civilian training. The Ridge-360r combines lateral movement with rapid target turning.

Command targets in an indoor range

Command Urban

Non-turning overhead carrier designed to minimize cabling headaches and maintenance. Controlled from touch screens configured for your range.

Silhouette targets with the Spire logo

Command Fury

Stationary ground-mounted turner: electric actuators turn the target 90°, 180° and 360° very quietly, with random edging, target tease and friend/foe presentation. Individual or synchronized control; all-weather rated.

Outdoor range with Command Bridger targets

Command Bridger

FAQ

About Spire target systems

What is the difference between a forward-and-back carrier and a lateral-moving target?

A forward-and-back carrier moves the target toward and away from the shooter along the lane. A lateral mover (“running man”) moves it side to side across the field of fire to simulate real movement and improve target tracking.

What are the benefits of wireless carriers?

They reduce wiring and installation complexity, allow faster and more flexible setup, and simplify maintenance without giving up reliability.

When should I choose a 360° turning target?

When you want maximum flexibility: the target can appear, disappear or change orientation in an instant, for advanced drills.

What is the difference between the Ridge and the Ridge-360?

“360” means automatic electronic turning. The Ridge does not turn, costs less and can be upgraded to the Ridge-360 when you need it. The same applies to the Ridge-r and Ridge-360r.

Can different systems be used together in the same range?

Yes. Many ranges combine carriers, turners and runners to create layered scenarios.

Do the systems adapt to my range?

Yes. They can be configured for many indoor and outdoor layouts, and RGM Advanced solutions are 100% custom.

What maintenance do they need?

It depends on the system, but generally includes routine inspections, cleaning and occasional part replacement. Wireless and modular designs simplify maintenance. Ask us about spare parts and service.

Are they also suitable for a recreational range?

Yes. Although many systems are built for professional training, they also make the experience more engaging in commercial and recreational ranges.
