Escobedo Holds First Biathlon at a Live-Fire Shooting Range Built by RGM Advanced

As part of the solemn commemorations for the Bicentennial of the Birth of General Mariano Escobedo, a key figure in national history, the Escobedo, Nuevo León Department of Citizen Security looked to the future with the First “Bicentenario Mariano Escobedo” Biathlon. This demanding tactical exercise was not just a sports competition; it was a critical evaluation of the operational capability, physical endurance and inter-agency coordination of law enforcement in northeastern Mexico.

Event Recap: Discipline Under Extreme Pressure

The biathlon brought together 33 officers selected from elite and community policing units, representing all three levels of government in an unprecedented display of professionalism. Over days of intense activity, officers faced challenges designed to simulate the exhaustion of a real pursuit, combining the cardiovascular strain of distance running with the composure needed for precision shooting.

The shooting stations, at 10 and 20 meters, required participants to switch immediately from physical exertion to ballistic focus. The evaluation rested on three tactical pillars:

  • Response capacity and fatigue: Motor reaction speed was measured at an elevated heart rate, simulating the stress of a confrontation after a foot pursuit.
  • Operational discipline and safety: Safe weapon handling (holstering, drawing and muzzle control) was evaluated under exhaustion, when following safety protocols is vital.
  • Critical accuracy and impulse control: Shooting effectiveness was analyzed against the clock, forcing officers to control their breathing to land accurate hits on the target.

The awards ceremony was led by Felipe Canales, Secretary of the City Council, and Marco Antonio Zavala, Secretary of Citizen Security, who reaffirmed that these facilities are the gold standard for preparing officers to carry out their duty ethically and efficiently.

  • Superior Armor and Containment: We use certified ballistic steel and materials that guarantee full capture of projectiles, eliminating ricochet risks and allowing both instructors and trainees to work in a controlled-risk environment.
  • Laminar Ventilation and Extraction Systems: We implement laminar airflow technology that constantly moves toxic gases, gunpowder residue and lead particles away from the shooter. This ensures officers' lungs are not compromised during long training sessions.

Advantages of Live-Fire Training in Mexico

  • TOP Group (Police Tactical Operations): These elite units need facilities that allow high-rate-of-fire drills and breaching maneuvers. Their win in this biathlon highlights the effectiveness of training in an environment that can handle the rigor of special forces.
  • PROXPOL (Community Police): They are the first line of contact with citizens. For them, the shooting range is a lab where they perfect the surgical precision needed to act in dense urban environments, where there is no margin for collateral error.
  • National Guard and Federal Forces: Bringing these federal forces into our infrastructure supports interoperability. By training at the same range designed by RGM, tactical language and response capabilities are standardized between the federal and municipal levels.
  • Nuevo León Attorney General's Office: Investigative agents use the range to maintain their protection and reaction skills, ensuring that arrest warrants and intelligence operations are carried out with maximum tactical safety.
